[01] NEW MINISTERS - CEREMONYThe two new Ministers of the government, who were appointed to replace the two Ministers who resigned after the Movement of Social Democrats EDEK withdrew from the government coalition, were sworn in on Tuesday before President of the Republic Demetris Christofias.Erato Kozakou Marcoullis is now Minister of Communications and Works, replacing Nicos Nicolaides, and Demetris Eliades is Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment, replacing Michalis Polynikis. Both new Ministers, who already assumed their new duties during ceremonies at their respective Ministries, pledged ``faith and respect to the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Cyprus, and to maintaining its independence and territorial integrity.`` President Christofias said the implementation of the government`s programme would continue and that he expected the active input of both new Ministers to issues discussed by the cabinet, and their contribution to the implementation of the government`s programme. He added that, given the difficulties faced by the economy due to external factors, the political responsibility and obligations of the government were now higher, and pointed out that the two Ministers should focus on people, especially the social groups that needed the government`s support the most. President Christofias also expressed his appreciation to the two outgoing Ministers for their successful activities and their contribution to the government`s overall work. Marcoullis assured that she would strive to promote the government`s programme, focusing on public interest, the welfare of the citizens and the general growth of the economy. She also praised the work of Nicolaides, noting that he had certainly set high standards. Eliades said he was assuming his duties with a sense of responsibility and assured that he would make every effort to honour the faith the President had shown in him and meet the expectations of the society. [02] SPOKESMAN - TURKISH REMARKSThe government appeared today cautious regarding statements by Turkish Prime Minister, Tayip Erdogan to Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot journalists about Cyprus problem.Government Spokesman, Stefanos Stefanou underlined that Turkey has to move from words to deeds, adding that what is important is not what is being said but what everyone does. Turkey, he continued, has been saying for some time now that it wants a solution in as soon as possible and that is the main message of Erdogans statements. Turkey and Erdogan need to move from words to deeds and they have to demonstrate that they want a solution in Cyprus, that they are working for this and that the solution will be based on UN resolutions, the principles of international and European law and on what has been agreed by the two communities from 1977 and 1979 when the preparative period prior to direct negotiations started, and this means a bizonal, bicommunal federation, he pointed out.
