The Democratic Party decided by majority on Saturday, after a ten-hour long meeting of the Executive Bureau, to remain in the coalition government of President Demetris Christofias, and the decision will be put before the Central Committee of the party on Tuesday for the final decision.

Speaking after the meeting, President of the Democratic Party Marios Garoyian said his proposal to remain in the government was formed after serious thought, keeping in mind the interests of the country and the society.

The Executive Bureau decision was taken with 18 votes in favour and four against. Four other members reserved their right to express their opinion on Tuesday, at the Central Committee meeting.

During the meeting, Garoyian briefed the members of the Executive Bureau on the outcome of his meetings with President Christofias, and read out a letter he had received on Friday from the President of the Republic.

The Democratic Party decided to maintain its disagreements and reservations on President Christofias` policy concerning the Cyprus problem, and to assess the situation collectively at regular intervals.
