    Cyprus Minister of Defence Costas Papacostas and his Serbian counterpart Dragan Sutanovac have signed an agreement to enhance cooperation between the armed forces of their respective countries. Speaking after the signing of the agreement, Minister Papacostas said that the main aim is to reinforce cooperation, inter alia, in training and peace missions. The agreement provides for the exchange of military staff, participation of officers from the two countries in training programmes and joint military drills.

    It is very important to send officers to Serbia, and it is also very important for Cypriot military personnel to attend Serbias war academy. Papacostas thanked Sutanovac for his visit to Cyprus and commended the long standing friendship between the two countries.

    On his part, Sutanovac expressed his satisfaction for the signing of the agreement and thanked Cyprus for the support it affords Serbia on several issues that concern his country. In addition, he expressed the support of Serbia towards Cyprus President Demetris Christofias for his effort to find a solution to the Cyprus problem. Serbia supports the efforts of Cyprus President in the ongoing process, to find a solution of the Cyprus problem, based on UN resolutions and the international law, he stressed.
