Speaking at a Congress of Cyprus Federation of Student Unions, the President added that the property issue is also on the agenda of the intensive talks with the Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat to be held in January.

We expect to achieve the aim of the intensive negotiations, something that needs both communities to be consistent with the base of the solution we have decided, said President Christofias.

President Christofias has denied as outrageous lies reports regarding the possibility of signing of an interim agreement on Cyprus problem and allegations that a comprehensive solution plan is underway to be proposed to the Cyprus people.

He stressed that the Cyprus Government remains committed to a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation solution and expressed the hope that the Turkish Cypriot community will continue to do the same.

This is the only way to achieve more convergence and open the way for progress that will lead to a solution of the problem, he said.

The President reassured that he will continue the titanic efforts he had begun to reach a solution as quickly as possible, decisively, consistently, based on principles and with the demonstration of the necessary realism for a solution that will reunite the territory, the people, the economy, the institutions and will restore and respect human rights and fundamental freedoms of all Cypriots.

President Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat have been engaged in talks since September 2008 to find a negotiated settlement that will reunite Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion, under a federal roof. The two leaders will hold intensive talks from 11 to 13 January and from 18 to 20 January.

Archbishop Chrysostomos points out that ``a plan is afoot in the next few months and left to understood by various directions that the plan will be worse than Annan Plan which rightly the Greek Cypriots rejected``.

He expresses the view that a plan which will not provide for a just, viable and functional solution to the Cyprus issue should not be put into a referendum because it will be rejected.

If a solution which will be proposed, he adds, is worse than the present situation, then we must endure because the acceptance of a worse solution would legalize the situation and will not be reversible.

Archbishop Chrysostomos says that it has been proved that Turkey is trying to legitimize its illegal plans for Cyprus and uses the talks to deceit Europe and the whole world.
