[02] DROUTSAS - CYPRUS PROBLEMAlternate Greek Foreign Minister Demetris Droutsas has repeated the Greek position on a solution to the Cyprus issue, which, as he points out, must be within the framework of UN decisions and must respect EU principles and values as well as the acquis communautaire. He also said that a solution should be European but also Cypriot, in the sense that Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots must be allowed to discuss freely their common future as a member state of the EU, without artificial deadlines, external pressure or threats and warnings that this is the last chance for a solution to the Cyprus issue. Speaking on Wednesday after a meeting with NATO General Secretary, Anders Fogh Rasmussen at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Droutsas referred to the recent meeting between Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou with his Turkish counterpart Tayip Erdogan and said they discussed the UN-led negotiations currently underway for a Cyprus settlement.
