Speaking after a four-hour long meeting, chaired by President Demetris Christofias, the Spokesman said that Council members (parliamentary parties) talked about the property issue, which is part of the peace talks President Christofias is engaged in with the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community Mehmet Ali Talat.

The Council, Stephanou said, will meet again on December 4.

President Christofias briefed the Council about the negotiations and a constructive discussion followed. It was agreed to continue to discussion on the property issue at the level of a Council sub-committee, set up under the presidential adviser, where the parties can table their positions and views, the Spokesman added.

Replying to questions, he explained that there has not been any negotiation on the property issue since properties will be classified into different categories.

On Turkeys EU course, he said the Council was briefed by the President about his moves regarding this issue, parliamentary action on the matter and contacts the Foreign Minister has had with EU member states in respect of this issue.

Stephanou said that no decisions have been taken on this matter but there was discussion.

Christofias and Talat began peace talks in September 2008, under UN auspices to find a mutually acceptable solution that will reunite Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
