    Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has ruled out any notion of recognising a state in Cyprus` northern Turkish occupied areas, in exchange of the recognition by Turkey of Abkhazia, which has seceded from Georgia.

    Russia does not bargain the recognition of Northern Cyprus from Moscow, in exchange of the recognition of Abkhazia from Ankara, Lavrov said during a lecture at the state university of Abkhazia.

    We are not liable to any exchange in the sense of give and take. These are completely different cases. They are different situations from historical, moral and human perspective and any kind of bargain is out of place, he added.

    Each situation must be addressed taking into consideration the historic events, that surround it Lavrov said.

    Cyprus has been divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion. The islands northern part remains under Turkish occupation. The illegal Turkish Cypriot regime, in occupied Cyprus, is not recognized by any state except Turkey. The UN has branded the regime legally invalid and called on all states not to recognise of facilitate it.

    [02] BULGARIA - AMBASSADOR - CYPRUS PROBLEM

    Bulgaria`s new Ambassador to Cyprus Vesselin Valchev presented his credentials to President of the Republic Demetris Christofias on Monday, assuring that his country fully supports efforts for a solution of the Cyprus problem.

    Receiving the credentials, President Christofias expressed gratitude for Bulgaria`s support and assured that he would continue the negotiations for a Cyprus solution with determination and commitment, noting that Turkey must alter its stance if a settlement is to be achieved.

    In his speech, Valchev expressed hope that a just, viable and functional solution would be found soon, based on UN resolutions and the acquis communautaire.

    [03] ANDREW DISMORE - CYPRUS

    British Labour MP Andrew Dismore, Vice-Chair of Friends of Cyprus Group is paying a visit to Cyprus, accompanied by the groups coordinator Mary Southcott

    An official press release issued here said that during his visit Dismore would be received by Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and House President Marios Garoyian.

    He will also have meetings with Foreign Minister Marcos Kyprianou, Presidential Commissioner George Iacovou, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou, Ministry of Education and Culture Permanent Secretary Olympia Stylianou and Nicosia Mayor Eleni Mavrou.

    In addition, he will hold meetings with left-wing AKEL General Secretary Andros Kyprianou and right-wing Democratic Rally President Nicos Anastasiades
