[01] MINISTER - LIMASSOL PORTArrivals at Limassol Port were down, just as it was predicted, Communications and Works Minister Nicos Nicolaides said during a visit to Limassol Port on Monday.He repeated that governments efforts are underway to support tourism during the economic crisis. Regarding arrivals at Limassol Port, Nicolaides said that these are down, just as it was expected. It seems there is a 25-30% decrease in travelers who are on extended cruise ship vacations and an increase in the arrivals of travelers who are paying a one-day visit to Cyprus during their stopover. In his remarks, Nicolaides said his Ministry wants to make sure that it wants to safeguard that services and infrastructure at ports are operating smoothly and efficiently and we are doing everything possible to help tourism and those Cypriots who are traveling. He also said the passengers lounge was recently renovated at a cost of 800 thousand euros, ahead of the completion of the new passengers lounge, the construction of which will begin next March and is scheduled to take two years to be completed at a cost of 17 million euros. [02] FM DIPLOMATIC MISSIONS MEETINGMinister of Foreign Affairs Marcos Kyprianou will be holding a meeting with the heads of the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Cyprus on July 29 and 30, to exchange views on issues concerning the smooth and effective operation of diplomatic missions and their coordination with the Ministry, with an aim to better utilise all the means at the disposal of the state.According to an official press release, they will also discuss the Cyprus problem, relations between the EU and Turkey, and the preparation of Cyprus` presidency of the European Council. The heads of the diplomatic missions will also be received by President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and will hold separate meetings with Presidential Commissioner George Iacovou, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nicholas Emiliou. Furthermore, Kyprianou will be holding meetings with the honorary consuls of the Republic of Cyprus. The first meeting will be held on July 28 and 29, with an aim to improve the cooperation of the honorary consuls with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the effective promotion of Cyprus abroad.
