[01] PRESIDENT CHRISTOFIAS - FAMAGUSTACyprus President Demetris Christofias expressed on Friday his dissatisfaction from the fact that the so far efforts for the return of the Famagusta, a city fenced off since the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus to its legal inhabitants have not borne fruit.In an address to an event focusing on the administrative update of the Famagusta District, read out by Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides, Christofias assured that he exerts ``every sincere effort so the direct talks I have commenced with (Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali) Mr. Talat in September 2008 will lead to the termination of the occupation of our country and the finding of just solution of our problem to the benefit of the whole of our people.`` ``In the meetings that took place so far we have achieved convergences on certain issues, but we also have found differences for which we continue efforts with optimism because I believe that with dialogue and good will we will overcome the problems and will find solutions which will safeguard the unity of the country,`` he stressed. With regard to the current financial crisis, Christofias said the consequences regarding the Cypriot economy are more benign ``thanks to the strong legal framework which protects the robustness of our economy.`` He pointed out the so far government economic policy has successfully tackled the crisis so far something which, as he added, has been confirmed from EU figures showing that Cyprus was the only Eurozone member-state to present positive economic growth in the first quarter of 2009. [02] PRESIDENTIAL PALACE - SCIENTISTSA group of specialists is carrying out a series of thermal and atmospheric pollution measurements at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, to determine the potential of transforming the central administrative building of the Republic of Cyprus into a model environment-friendly state building, with zero energy liability and zero emissions.The tests are being carried out by the Cyprus Institute in cooperation with the Building Environment Laboratory of the University of Athens, with the use of a mobile measurement station, equipped with state-of-the art instruments. Speaking at the Presidential Palace, Undersecretary to the President Titos Christophides said this was pioneering technology, which is being processed by large institutes abroad and which has not been used anywhere else, adding that the whole symbolism of the project should be used as an example for the private and the broader public sector. Christophides said the initiative was undertaken after a decision by President of the Republic Demetris Christofias, in cooperation with the Cyprus Institute, adding that the message was that this effort should be seen as practical measures to minimise energy loss and an example to be followed by the private and public sector. [03] CYPRIOT SHOOTER - GOLD - ISSFCypriot World Champion George Achilleos has won the gold medal in Men`s Skeet final at the ISSF World Cup in San Marino.The reigning Skeet World Champion won first place with total score of 146 targets, 121 targets in qualification and a perfect 25 hits in the event`s final. This is Achilleos` second medal in 2009 after a bronze medal he won in Munich. After San Marino, Achilleos, Hasikos and Cyprus` coach Andrea Benelli will travel to Pescara, Italy to compete in the XVI Mediterranean Games.
