[01] PRESIDENT CHRISTOFIAS - CYPRUS TALKSPresident of the Republic Demetris Christofias has said that some convergence has been achieved in some aspects of the economy during the discussions in the framework of the direct negotiations to reach a solution in Cyprus and reunify the island.Speaking to the press after returning to the Presidential Palace following his 31st meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, President Christofias also said that during next Thursdays meeting (11 June), discussion will begin on the territorial issue. [02] UN SG SPECIAL ADVISOR - CYPRUS TALKSUN Secretary Generals Special Advisor on Cyprus, Alexander Downer, has said that the leaders of the islands two communities discussed Wednesday the chapter of economy and the Limnitis issue, (relating to efforts to open a crossing point to and from the northern Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus to facilitate movement).In statements after the leaders 31st meeting, which took place in the framework of direct negotiations for a solution, under UN auspices, Downer said that the leaders, Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat will begin discussing the issue of territory during their next meeting to take place June 11th. The leaders discussed the economy and the Limnitis issue in the tete-a-tete session and had a further discussion in the open session as well on the economy. They decided that next week, next Thursday, they will talk a little more about the economy and the Limnitis question and also they will begin discussion on the issue of territory, Downer told reporters. [03] MINISTER OF JUSTICE - SLOVAKIACypriot Minister of Justice and Public Order Loukas Louka is in Slovakia with an aim to strengthen traditionally friendly bilateral relations, and enhance cooperation in tackling issues concerning the Ministries of Justice of both countries.Speaking after a meeting in Bratislava with his Slovak counterpart and Deputy Prime Minister for Legislation Stefan Harabin, Louka said these meetings and the exchange of views help improve the legal systems. Harabin said they discussed issues concerning the sector of justice, recent legislative initiatives undertaken by the two countries, and the cooperation of Slovakia and Cyprus on a European level. [04] GSSE - CYPRUSCyprus is ranking first in the medal table of the XIII Games of the Small States of Europe, with 12 gold, 15 silver and 6 bronze medals, at the end of the first day of the games.Iceland is in the second place of the table with 9 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze medals, Luxembourg is in the third place with 8 gold, 2 silver, and 9 bronze medals. Monaco ranks fourth with 1 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze, Andora ranks fifth with 1 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medal, Malta sixth with 1 gold and 5 bronze medals, San Marino follows with 1 gold and 3 bronze and Liechtenstein is at the eighth place with 4 bronze medals. More than one thousand athletes from eight small states of Europe with an independent Olympic Committee - Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, San Marino and Cyprus are participating in the Games. Athletes are competing in athletics, tennis, table tennis, gymnastics, swimming, sailing, basketball, volleyball, shooting and judo.
