[01] JUSTICE MINISTER - RESIGNATIONKypros Chrysostomides, Cyprus Minister of Justice and Public Order, has resigned. President Demetris Christofias has accepted his resignation. Chrysostomidess resignation comes in the wake of last weeks escape, from a private hospital, of prisoner Antonis Prokopiou Kitas, who was serving a life sentence for rape and murder.This was the second time, within a few days, that Chrysostomides had submitted his resignation to the President. President Christofias did not accept his resignation the first time, hours after Kitas had escaped. Kitas was sentenced to life imprisonment at the age of 28, in 1994, for the brutal rapes and murders of Oksana Lisna, 20, and Christina Ahfeldt, 28. [02] HOUSE PLENARY STATE BUDGET - DEBATECyprus House plenary continues here Wednesday a three-day debate on the 2009 state budget. The State Budget 2009 is the first budget in Euro after Cyprus entered Eurozone and adopted the single currency in January 2008.The leaders or representatives of political parties opened the debate Tuesday with speeches on the budget, the financial and fiscal policy of the government as well as the Cyprus issue. The debate continues Wednesday with speeches by MPs on various aspects of the state budget and government policy. [03] CYPRUS ISSUE TALKSThe leaders of the two communities in Cyprus will continue this coming Monday their discussions on external relations in the framework of the direct negotiations, which began in September with a view to reach a solution of the Cyprus problem. This will be the thirteen meeting of Cypriot President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat.President Christofias and Talat have been engaged in direct negotiations since early September this year, aiming at reuniting the island, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion. The two leaders held Tuesday their 12th meeting. UN Secretary Generals Special Adviser for Cyprus, Alexander Downer, who was present at the meeting, said that the leaders, Cypriot President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat discussed the external relations, powers of a federal government. He added that discussion on that issue would continue during the next meeting, which would take place 22nd of December. The next issue on the agenda, he said, is the relationship between the laws of the constituent states and the federal government. [04] CYPRUS - TOURISM - FORUMA forum on tourism in Cyprus, titled The tourism of the future, was held Tuesday in Nicosia, during which important views and positions were outlined on the prospects of tourism in Cyprus, taking into account the global environment and the current economic crisis.Speaking at the forum, Antonis Paschalides, Cyprus Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, said that the government is determined to support the local tourist industry, and to find the best and more efficient economic ways to help improve the tourism. Tourism has been and remains a vital economic sector and is one of the governments top priorities, he said. Paschalides also noted that the Ministry and the Cyprus Tourism Organisation are committed to working towards the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Tourism, and the upgrading of all services related to tourism.
