[01] PRESIDENT - ATHENS VISITThe current developments in the Cyprus question as well as relations between Cyprus and Turkey and Greece and Turkey will be the focal point of Cyprus President Demetris Christofias talks with the Greek government in Athens during his official visit.In statements before his departure for Greece, on an official visit between November 26 and 28, Christofias expressed the belief his visit will yield the best possible results and thanked President Papoulias for his invitation to officially visit the Greek capital. Christofias noted that he would have a meeting with Papoulias both with the participation of delegations of the two governments and a private meeting at the presence of their spouses. Christofias also said that he will meet the Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and other officials of the Greek government with whom they will review current developments in the Cyprus question, the situation in the Balkans, relations between Cyprus and Turkey and Greece and Turkey as well as bilateral relations between Cyprus and Greece which are developing rapidly. Christofias was welcomed at Eleftherios Venizelos airport in Athens by Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Yiannis Valinakis, while a contingent of the air force paid honours. The official welcoming ceremony will take place later today at the Presidential Palace, where Christofias will have a private meeting with Papoulias. The Greek President will host this evening an official dinner in Christofias honour. [02] GREEK FM - INTERVIEWGreek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyiannis has described as a success for President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias and the island as a whole the fact that the Turkish Cypriot side has at last accepted the principles of a single identity, a single indivisible sovereignty and a single nationality.In an interview with CNA on the occasion of President Christofias official visit to the Greek capital, Bakoyiannis repeated the support of the Greek government and political parties to President Christofias initiatives in finding an overall and agreed solution to the Cyprus issue within the framework of the UN Security Council decisions, as well as the EU principles and values. Regarding the issue of guarantees, Bakoyiannis pointed out that Greece and Cyprus fully support the complete withdrawal of Turkish occupation troops and the abolition of guarantee and alliance pacts, which have proved to be dangerous for the stability and security of Cyprus and are not suitable for an EU member state. We clearly support the demilitarization of the island and the explicit barring of every right for military intervention, Bakoyiannis added. Asked if Turkeys presence at the UN Security Council, even as a non-permanent member, could affect the ongoing Cyprus talks, the Greek FM pointed out that the Cyprus issue remains an issue of invasion and occupation of an independent state, member of the UN, underlining that this choice does not allow room for arrogance. [03] JUSTICE MINISTER - MIGRATIONCypriot Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kypros Chrysostomides expressed Cyprus support to a multi-annual programme of cooperation for migration and development, which was adopted by more than 80 delegations from Europe and Africa that met in Paris on Tuesday. Following on from the first conference held in Rabat in July 2006, the Second Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development took place in Paris on 25 November 2008, within the framework of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.It resulted in adopting a multi-annual programme of cooperation by the sixty countries and twenty international organisations attending this conference. The programme is based on the three aspects of the global approach to migration: legal migration, combating illegal migration, and synergies between migration and development policy. This cooperation programme drew inspiration from the conclusions of three meetings of experts that were held in Rabat in March 2008 (legal migration), in Ouagadougou in May 2008 (combating illegal migration), and in Dakar in July 2008 (migration and development). These three meetings set out a series of operational procedures, which can begin to be swiftly implemented. All are aimed at strengthening cooperation between Europe and Africa in all matters relating to the migration route from West Africa.
