  • [01] CYPRUS - BULGARIA - PROTOCOL

Cyprus and Bulgaria have signed a protocol on enhanced Cooperation to further improve bilateral relations.

The protocol was signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus and Bulgaria, Markos Kyprianou and Ivailo Kalfin respectively, in the presence of the Presidents of both countries, Demetris Christofias and Georgi Parvanov, at the Presidential House of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The two countries are willing to further strengthen the traditional relations of friendship ad cooperation between them, in the framework of their membership to the European Union, the protocol says.

It notes that Nicosia and Sofia are convinced that a regular and constructive dialogue on bilateral, regional, European and international issues which fall within their competencies will contribute to achieving a better knowledge and understanding of each others positions.

    [02] ELDERS - BICOMMUNAL MEETING

Three members of The Elders, Chairman Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former US President Jimmy Carter and former Algerian Foreign Minister Lakhdar Brahimi, will be participating in a meeting of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political party leaders.

The meetings between political parties of the two sides in Cyprus are organised by the embassy of the Slovak Republic.

According to an embassy press release, the meeting to be attended by Tutu, Carter and Brahimi will take place at Ledra Palace, in Nicosia, on October 8.

    [03] MORPHOU - EVENTS

Morphou Municipality is organising a series of events to mark 34 years since the town was captured by the Turkish military, when it invaded Cyprus in 1974, and Mayor Charlambos Pittas has said that events have been upgraded to reflect increased mobility in efforts to find a solution of the Cyprus issue.

Speaking at a press conference, Pittas announced the various events, noting that once again, we are holding anti-occupation events because for 34 years now, the intransigence of the occupation regime keeps us away from our town.

He said the Municipality has already made its own contribution through various contacts and a resolution it has given to the political leadership in Cyprus.

The municipality, he added, has also upgraded its overseas contacts, mainly in Great Britain, the US, the European Parliament and Greece, sending our message that we are waiting and claiming our undeniable right to return to our occupied land.

More than 75 foreign representatives from the British, Greek and Slovenian Parliaments, the European Parliament, the US, Austria and Germany have been invited to attend the events and unite their voices with us for a fair and viable solution to our national issue.
