``Cyprus Green Party`` (CGP) and T/C New Cyprus Party(NCP) support the
reactions and disagreements of Antinuclear Platform of Mersin, and
anti-nuclear initiative SINYAD in Turkey, against the Turkish plans to
build nuclear plants for electricity production near the areas of
Akkuyu and Sinop.
``The reaction of our friends in Turkey is in parallel grounds with our
reaction as we believe that Nuclear Energy is harmful, dangerous and
very expensive source of energy``, both parties pointed out during a
press conference.
``Radiation is demolishing the quality of life of the nearby residents.
This area is huge and in the instance of radiation leak will harm
tenths of kilometers around the nuclear plants``, both, Deputy
Secretary General of CGP Savvas Philippou and NCP`s Leader Murat
Kanatli underlined, adding that ``Chernobils accident is still creating
problems to people and the thousands of dead or still born with various
diseases due to freed radiation in the atmosphere, forbids the
repetition of the same error``.
Furthermore, they said that ``We are well aware of the high cost of
common sources of energy. Oil is getting fewer and its price will
increase continuously. Coal, anthrax and other sources are also
polluting atmosphere and increasing the problem of greenhouse
phenomenon``.
``We, the Cyprus Green Party and New Cyprus Party, Greek and Turkish
Cypriots, will fight together for a clean environment with clean energy
sources. Nuclear is NOT an answer for us`` the two parties concluded.
