The Russian Federation remains committed to the UN Security Council resolutions on Cyprus and has not changed its stance regarding the non recognition of the pseudostate in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus.

This was stated Tuesday by a spokesperson of the Russian Embassy in Cyprus, invited to comment on press reports that the so called state is about to open up a tourism and information office in Moscow to attract more Russian tourists to the island.

We will ask Moscow for more information on this. I can not right now make any comment because in the past there had been similar news and in the end we discovered they had to do with an office of a British company. There may be distortion or exaggeration and we have to be very cautious, he said.

Furthermore, he reassured that Russias stance on Cyprus has not changed and said that Moscow respects the UNSC resolutions 541 and 550. The self-proclaimed state in northern Turkish occupied Cyprus is recognised only by Turkey, which in 1974 invaded and occupied Cyprus northern third. United Nation resolutions 550 and 541 of 1984 call on all states not to recognise or facilitate the regime, describing it as ``legally invalid`` and to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus.
