The Cypriot Government has condemned recent outbreaks of hooliganism and juvenile delinquency incidents and expressed its determination to tackle the problem in collaboration with society and all the relevant bodies.

Speaking after a meeting on Tuesday under President of the Republic Demetris Christofias to examine the situation and discuss measures to be taken, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou said that the Government condemns with determination and abhorrence the latest incidents of violence and hooliganism, which occurred within and outside the stadiums.

He described Tuesday`s meeting, attended by Minister of Justice and Public Order Kypros Chrysostomides, Attorney General Petros Clerides and Chief of Police Iacovos Papacostas, as a starting point for the Government to take the necessary measures and decisions towards the creation of a social alliance to tackle violence and crime, adding that everybody has a role to play in this alliance.
