    Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos will visit today Artemida community in Greece, which was badly hit during this summers catastrophic forest fires and which the Cypriot government has undertaken to rebuild.

    The mountain village in Zacharo Municipality of Helia District suffered extensive damage during the summer fires and lost 14 of its 100 inhabitants to the flames.

    During a meeting with the Cyprus President, Tuesday, Greek Premier Costas Karamanlis expressed the gratitude of the Greek government to Cyprus for its unreserved support during the disastrous fires in Greece as well as for Cyprus decision to undertake the rebuilding of the Greek village of Artemida.

    Papadopoulos will be accompanied by Greek Minister of the Interior Prokopis Pavlopoulos and will meet the local authorities.

    Later on in the day, he will meet the leadership of the federation of Cypriots living in Greece.

    President Papadopoulos returns to Cyprus on Thursday.

    [02] GREEK PM - CYPRUS PRESIDENT

    President of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos and Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis discussed in Athens ways to coordinate their moves to help find a comprehensive solution of the Cyprus problem.

    The solution of the Cyprus problem should be consistent with the relevant UN resolutions and EU principles. The solution should allow all EU benefits to be extended throughout the whole island. Unfortunately this is not possible today due to the Turkish invasion and continuous occupation of Cyprus, the Greek Prime Minister said.

    [03] EURO - PREPARATIONS

    With only five weeks to go before the introduction of the euro in Cyprus, January 1st, the country seems to be generally well prepared, according to European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Joaquin Almunia.

    Presenting the Sixth Report on practical preparations for the euro: countdown for Cyprus and Malta Almunia said that according to the Commissions final assessment of the state of practical preparations for the currency changeover in both countries both member states are well prepared for the introduction of the euro.

    ``Malta and Cyprus will adopt the euro in January 2008, less than four years after they joined the EU. This is something the Cypriot and Maltese people can be proud of because they will become part of the largest monetary area of the developed world, which has delivered an unprecedented period of price stability and favourable financing conditions for businesses and households alike``, said Almunia.

    [04] EU - UN - CLIMATE

    The European Union will participate in the UN climate change conference, to take place 3 14 December in Bali, Indonesia.

    For the high-level segment the EU will be led by the troika, comprising Portuguese Environment Minister Francisco Nunes Correia, Slovenian Environment Minister Janez Podobnik and EU Commissioner for the Environment Stavros Dimas.

    The Cyprus Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment will be respresented at the conference by a Ministry official.
