[01] CYPRUS AIRWAYS AGM LAZARIDESCyprus Airways Executive Chairman Kikis Lazarides assured that both he and the CY staff will make every effort to give the national carrier a new breath of fresh air and to make it viable and competitive. He also referred to the restructuring plan proposed by the Republic of Cyprus to restore the viability of Cyprus` national air carrier, noting it is CYs last chance to become viable and competitive. Speaking before the 60th Annual General Assembly Monday afternoon, Lazarides said that it is evident in the air transport environment that only the most competitive and effective companies will survive. There is no room to rest on ones laurels, he said, as he presented the economic results for 2006 and the companys priorities for 2007. According to the results, the Cyprus Airways Group posted a net loss of 4.3 million pounds (one Cyprus pound trades at approximately 0.4360 US dollars) compared to 22.6 million in 2005. He said the improvement was due to the implementation of the Restructuring plan and the profit of 10.6 million pounds made by selling Eurocyprias shares to the government. [02] 2007 WINDSURFING RS:X EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPThe 2007 Windsurfing RS:X European Championship continues here, while on Sunday competitors were literally flying downwind with fins fully clear of the water before disappearing into troughs only to re-emerge again a few seconds later, an airborne speed blur.In the mens blue fleet 2003 Mistral World Champion, Przemyslaw Miarczynski (POL) won with room to spare and took back the overall lead from young gun Nicolas Le Gal (FRA). Le Gal had a torrid time finishing 15th, now happily discarded, and so clings on to second place for now. The other young gun, Fabian Heidegger (ITA), also sailed his throw out finishing Sundays blue fleet race in 15th, but still hangs onto third overall. JP Tobin (NZL), Joao Rodrigues (POR) and Ivan Pastor (ESP) are all square in fourth overall, the three sailed top five performances today. JP who rounded the bottom mark in second place during the race, fell on the jibe in the tricky conditions, but still recovered quickly enough to finish fourth.
