Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Government Spokesman
Christodoulos Pashiardis condemned the illegal declaration of the
secessionist entity in the Turkish occupied since 1974 areas of the
Republic of Cyprus on November 15, 1983.
In a press release issued today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
describes the continuation of the illegal occupation of Cyprus`
territory and the secessionist actions of Turkey and the Turkish
Cypriot leadership, as ``a serious obstacle in the efforts for the
reunification of Cyprus.``
``Twenty-three years after the illegal unilateral declaration of the
secessionist entity in the area of the Republic of Cyprus occupied by
Turkey, the occupying power still refuses to conform with and
flagrantly violates resolutions 541(1983) and 550(1984) of the United
Nations Security Council with which the international community
condemned the declaration of the pseudostate as legally invalid and
called for its revocation,`` the Ministry points out, reminding that no
country other than Turkey has recognised the pseudostate.
In a statement after today`s Council of Ministers meeting, Pashiardis
said that ``the Cypriot government once more condemns the secessionist
act of 1983, which the UN Security Council itself considers as legally
invalid and politically inadmissible,`` condemning the illegal visit of
Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Gul to the occupied areas,
even if his presence does not grant any legality or validity whatsoever
to the pseudostate.
[02] STUDENTS PUPILS CONDEMN UNILATERAL UDI
In a mass rally in Nicosia, Students condemned Wednesday the Illegal
unilateral declaration of the secessionist entity in the area of the
Republic of Cyprus occupied by Turkey. Students gathered at Eleftheria
stadium and after a concert by well-known Greek singer Giorgos Dallaras
approved a resolution, demanding from the international community and
particularly the UN to give a clear message that Turkey cannot occupy a
part of Cyprus, an EU member-state and a member of the UN.
"We will continue to struggle by the side of our people for a just,
viable federal solution to Cyprus problem, so that Greek Cypriots and
Turkish Cypriots can live together in their common country," they add.
