[01] EARTHQUAKE - CYPRUS

The temblor was felt at 4.35 am local time (0135 GMT) in Larnaca and the south - eastern resorts of Ayia Napa, Paralimni, Kiti and Zygi.

According to the Cyprus seismology centre, the epicentre of the earthquake was 10 kilometres south of the coast of Ayia Napa at a depth of 40 kilometres.

There were no reports of serious casualties or damage.

[02] CHURCH - ELECTIONS

Today, the special representatives will elect 100 general representatives, classified in the following manner: 50 for the Archbishopric district (clergy and laymen) and ten general representatives for each of the other five metropolitan districts.

Church regulations stipulate that 34 of the 100 general representatives will be clerics.

Final results are expected to be announced today late in the afternoon.

[03] CYPRIOT FM - TURKEY

In statements on his arrival from Athens, where he participated in the Informal Meeting of the EU - Mediterranean Foreign Ministers, Lillikas said that a successful European course of Turkey depends on Turkey itself and on its cooperation with the European institutions.

Regarding the possibility that Cyprus vetoes Turkeys EU accession course, Lillikas said that Cyprus would defend its national interests, adding that the number of EU countries that would veto Turkeys accession course would not constitute a criterion for Cyprus to defend its national interests.

By defending its interests, in this particular case, Cyprus is defending the EU credibility as well, he noted.
