Asked about remarks by Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat that Moller had presented him with a package of proposals regarding the work of the technical committees, Pashiardis said ``no specific proposals`` were submitted by Moller other than some ``ideas and thoughts to move forward the July 8 agreement.``

Referring to Talat`s allegations that the Greek Cypriot side was unwilling to resume talks and was wasting time, Pashiardis said ``the UN know very well which side is responsible for the so far inexistence of substantive progress in the meetings of the representatives of the leaders of the two communities, as they know very well who is wasting time.``

He added that Talat ``would not be happy if the UN revealed the truth`` and wondered why Talat was in such a hurry to inform UN Undersecretary General for political affairs Ibrahim Gambari personally about developments.

The Spokesman pointed out that ``Mr. Gambari is briefed duly by Mr. Moller, unless of course Mr. Talat felt the need to apologise to Mr. Gambari for the delay and unwillingness of his side to cooperate towards the implementation of the July 8 agreement.``

[02] FM - TURKEY - EU

He noted that during the current period and until Turkey`s progress report was discussed, the European Commission should try to convince Ankara to implement the acquis communautaire and meet its obligations towards the EU and Cyprus, and not make efforts to facilitate Turkey`s accession course, minimising the stance of the Turkish government.

Speaking at Larnaca Airport before departing for Brussels to participate in the EU General Affairs Council tomorrow, Lillikas said that later today he will be meeting with Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn to discuss Turkey`s accession course and its evaluation by the Commission, as well as issues concerning the implementation of the financial regulation for the Turkish Cypriots.

Commenting on reports that the Commission intended to open the chapter on education for Turkey, Lillikas said ``the chapter for education and culture has already been submitted to the working group,`` adding that ``the Cypriot government objected, as did other countries, resulting in chapter 26 not being promoted.``

Asked if the specific chapter would open, Lillikas said it would not, adding that ``our position is steadfast and irreversible, we believe that until the discussion on Turkey`s assessment is concluded, it would be counterproductive to discuss the opening or closing of chapters.``

[03] CMP - EXHUMATIONS

A CMP press release says that the next exhumations will take place simultaneously in the Larnaca and occupied Karpas regions.

``Protocols and procedures have been put in place and the remains of some thirteen persons have been exhumed in the Kyrenia area. A similar number have undergone anthropological analysis at the CMP`s laboratory in the United Nations Protected Area (Old Nicosia Airport),`` CMP notes.

The Committee also adds that ``the Argentine team of Forensic Anthropology (EAAF) has praised the CMP`s bicommunal team of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot archaeologists and anthropologists for their scientific capacity as well as for their positive team-spirit, commitment and enthusiasm,`` adding that the bi-communal team of scientists is undergoing further specialist skills development.

[04] HEALTH MINISTER - PROPOSAL

Charalambous said the archives containing all information on cancer are not up to date due to the absence of proper computerisation, confirmation and recording of data into a cancer databank so that, based on this information, a national cancer strategy could be properly drafted.

Meanwhile, the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (PASYKAF) will be marking its 20th anniversary this year with an island-wide fund-raising event.
