[01] DEFENCE MINISTER RESIGNSCypriot Minister of Defence, Fivos Klokkaris, has resigned his post.Government Spokesman Christodoulos Pashiardes confirmed today press reports that Klokkaris submitted his resignation in writing to Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos on September 5th. The Spokesman said that the reasons behind his resignation are personal and concern health issues. Answering questions, Pashiardes dismissed press reports that the Ministers resignation had anything to do with allegations relating to the existence of a paramilitary group in the National Guard or with alleged intervention by a political party in issues concerning the army. He added that President Papadopoulos will look into the matter when he returns to Cyprus September 22, 2006. Klokkaris assumed his duties as Defence Minister in June this year. [02] CYPRUS CONGRESS LEBANONCyprus will organise in December a World Congress and Exhibition on the Reconstruction and Development of postwar Lebanon.Lebanese Ambassador to Cyprus Michel El Khouri has told CNA that this event is jointly organised by the International Merchandising Centre, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the World Trade Centres Association. [03] PLASKITT VISIT CYPRUSParliamentary Undersecretary for the Department of Work and Pensions James Plaskitt begins on Wednesday an official five day visit to Cyprus.The aim of the visit is to discuss with Cypriot Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Antonis Vasiliou issues of public interest and to exchange views on experiences, an official statement said.
