    Greece`s Foreign Minister Dora Bacoyiannis will embark next Tuesday (August 22) on a Middle East tour following the cease-fire agreement in Lebanon.

    Cyprus will be her first stop on Tuesday. During her stay she will be received by President Tassos Papadopoulos.

    Bacoyiannis`s Middle East tour will also cover Lebanon, Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian Territories.

    She will hold talks with her counterparts in the region and other government officials.

    Bacoyiannis` tour takes place in view of the assumption by Greece of the rotating monthly presidency of the UN Security Council in September and in the light of the unanimous adoption by the 15-member international body of resolution 1701 on the cease-fire in Lebanon.

    [02] FOREIGN MINISTER - VISIT - LEBANON

    Cypriot Foreign Minister George Lillikas departs next Thursday, 24 August, for Beirut at the invitation of Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora, for consultations with the Lebanese government, Deputy Minister to the President and Government Spokesman Christodoulos Pashiardes has announced.

    Pashiardes also said that the Foreign Minister has sent a letter to his Finnish counterpart Erkki Tuomioja, whose country holds this semester`s EU Presidency, as well as to the EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana, in which he states that ``Cyprus places at the disposal of the EU and the UN its infrastructure for the transfer of humanitarian aid to Lebanon, as well as members and equipment of the UN Peacekeeping Force in the area.

    Moreover, the Republic of Cyprus offers to send two officers of its National Guard to Lebanon, to participate in the UN Peacekeeping Force, in accordance with the recent UN Security Council resolution, the Spokesman added.
