The Church does not discriminate among different religious
denominations when it comes to humanitarian aid, said here Wednesday
Acting Primate of the Church of Cyprus, Bishop of Paphos Chrysostomos
who went to Beirut on board a French military helicopter to hand over
60,000 dollars.
Speaking before departing, the Bishop said we believe that the moral
support we give is far more important than material assistance.
He recalled that Cypriots themselves have experienced similar
situations and know first hand what war can bring, referring to the
1974 Turkish invasion of the island.
During his brief stay in Lebanon, Chrysostomos will meet
representatives of the Orthodox and Catholic Church as well as Sunnis
and Shi`a Muslims and will deliver 60,000 dollars for the relief of
Lebanese people who are suffering.
