    As the Israeli assault on Lebanon continues Cyprus expects to take in nearly 10,000 more evacuees on Sunday.

    About 14 vessels are expected to dock at Larnaca and Limassol over until and Monday morning.

    The San Gwan» carried 300 passengers and the Princesa Marissa» a further 1.171.

    The Fast Arrow» ferried in 400 åðéâÜôåò, Krete II brought 500 Australian nationals while the Serenade» 680 passengers and the Rhodes another 150.

    The «Jean De Bach» is expected on Sunday to ferry around 200 French nationals.

    On Monday, three Indian vessels are scheduled to bring in Indian nationals, while the cruise ship Iera Petra another 1.200 French nationals.

    At Limassol port, cruise ship «Orient Queen», is expected to bring 1.037 passengers and the US war vessel «USS Whidbey Island», another 800. Alkyon ferried 724 passengers while also anticipated on Sunday are the British «HMS York» and «HMS Gloucester» and the American «USS Trenton» and «USS Nashville».

    [02] FRENCH DEFENCE MINISTER PAPADOPOULOS

    French Defence Minister Michele Alliot-Marie, carried a message from President Jacques Chirac to his Cypriot counterpart Tassos Papadopoulos, expressing his gratitude to the government and the people of Cyprus for assisting all EU citizens at this time of need since the Israeli bombing of Lebanon began on 12 July.

    Alliot-Marie already conveyed the French governments message to Papadopoulos during a meeting the two had at the Presidents holiday home at the coastal northern resort of Protaras.

    She told Papadopoulos that she is carrying a personal message from Chirac, thanking the President, the government and people of Cyprus for the mobility and willingness exhibited during the large wave of refugees from Lebanon.

    The French Minister expressed Chiracs appreciation for the assistance which Cyprus provided to French refugees, noting that those repatriated had the finest words to say about Cyprus.

    In her remarks upon her arrival, Alliot-Marie said the assistance provided by Cyprus to French nationals is part of the good cooperation between the two countries and expressed certainty that this cooperation would be further strengthened.

    She was received by Cypriot Minister of Defence Phivos Klokaris and Commander of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Constantinos Mpisbikas and Frances Ambassador to Cyprus Hadelin de La Tour du Pin.

    Klokaris expressed Cyprus appreciation to France for its support at all other levels, including the UN and the EU.

    Alliot-Marie will visit two French navy vessels which will dock at Larnaca Port, bringing in more French nationals for repatriation.
