Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos expressed satisfaction on Tuesday over the results of Mondays General Affairs and External Relations Council in Luxembourg concerning Turkeys EU course.

Speaking on the sidelines of the annual general assembly of the Industrialists and Employers Federation, President Papadopoulos stressed that he is not talking about successes but rather that it was a satisfactory conclusion.

The EU General Affairs Council, called all those who wish a smooth European course for Turkey ``to direct towards Ankara their advice and actions, so that it meets its obligations the soonest possible.

Commenting on press reports that Nicosia and Athens are at odds over Cypruss stance at the General Affairs Council, President Papadopoulos assured that cooperation between the two capitals is excellent.

He said that with Greeces Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyiannis we had set out from the beginning aims and policies.

We assured them during our meeting in Vienna and throughout the last week I was in constant communication with them (greek government) while I even talked to her today, said Papadopoulos.

I cannot understand why there are misunderstandings. I believe Greeces cooperation is greatly valuable and effective. I have asked Mrs. Bakoyiannis to hold a series of contacts which she sucuccessfully completed and I think without Greeces assistance we would have not come to this result, he added.

President Papadopoulos also confirmed that UN Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari is scheduled to visit Cyprus early July although he stressed the exact date of his arrival has not been set.
