[01] AIR CRASH - REPORTAkrivos Tsolakis, head of the Hellenic Air Accident and Incidents Investigation Committee, presented the draft report regarding the crash of an Helios Airways jet in Athens last August, that killed all 121 persons on board.Tsolakis presented his draft report to head of Cypriot Air Accident and Incidents Investigation Committee Costas Orfanos during a special ceremony in the presence of Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos. He said that the Committee`s draft report will be finalised sixty days from today (July 18), after the concerned parties make their comments. According to Tsolakis, the comments accepted by the Committee will be incorporated into the report and the comments it does not accept will be incorporated as an appendix. The finalised version of the report will be handed to the Greek authorities. Until its finalisation, the draft will remain confidential. Replying to questions, Tsolakis said that the report ``is referring to causes of the crash and not to responsibilities.`` The Cypriot government assigned on May 10 a one-member independent Investigating Committee, comprising former member of the Supreme Court Panayiotis Kallis, to investigate fully the causes of the crash. [02] ARCHBISHOP - SEATA broad meeting of senior clergymen, chaired by the head of the Greek Orthodox Church Patriarch Bartholomew, convened in Switzerland and decided to honourably vacate the position of Archbishop of the Church of Cyprus, a move that will lead to elections for a new Archbishop.Archbishop Chrysostomos has been incapacitated for the past four years and is unable to perform his duties as the head of the Church. The decision was taken by majority, with 15 members voting in favour and seven against. Today`s meeting was attended, apart from Patriarch Bartholomew, by Cypriot Metropolitan Bishops of Paphos, Kitium, Limassol, Kyrenia and Morphou, and the Bishops of Arsinoe, Trimithounta and Kykkos. The Bishop of Salamina did not attend the broad meeting but sent his position in writing. Also present were the Patriarchs of Antioch, Alexandria and Jerusalem. The Cypriot Metropolitan Bishops of Paphos, Kitium, Limassol and Kyrenia, as well as the Bishops of Arsinoe and Salamina voted against, along with the Patriarch of Antioch. [03] CYPRUS - BEST POSTERCyprus won the first prize at a competition for the best European poster on childrens rights in the EU, in the 10 14 year age group.Around 2.237 teams from all over Europe participated at the competition. Today, a ceremony took place in Brussels, where Commissioner Vice President Franco Frattini, presented a certificate to each participating team. The best posters will be displayed on the websites of the Commissions Representations in the various EU countries and on the Europa server. They will also be used in future European childrens rights promotion campaigns. The Commission will develop a strategy for promoting and protecting childrens rights in all of its policies, both internal and external, as from June 2006. In the 10 14 age group, the first prize was given to the Cypriot team, the second to the Lithuanian and the third to the Maltese. In the 15 18 age group, Slovakia won the first prize, Denmark the second and Italy the third. Presenting the certificates to the participants, Commissioner Frattini expressed his impression by the interests shown in the subject and said it is to all these young people who have given substantive shape to their ideas on childrens rights and to their expectations regarding them that I extend my thanks and my congratulations. [04] EUROVISION - CYPRUSCyprus will be participating in the Eurovision Song Contest semifinals, to take place in Athens on Thursday tonight. Cyprus will be represented with the song ``Why Angels Cry``, performed by Annete Artani.A total of 23 countries will participate in tonight`s semifinals, aspiring to finish in the first ten spots, securing a place for the final to be held on May 20. The countries registered to compete in the Semi Final are Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, FYROM, Iceland, Ireland, Lithuania, Monaco, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine.
