    President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos concluded his official visit to India, during which he held a series of meetings with the Indian political leadership.

    President Papadopoulos said that his meetings with the Indian President Abdul Kalam, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Indian Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, have been successful since India reiterated its firm position as regards the Cyprus question.

    During his meetings, President Papadopoulos assured India that Cyprus will support its application to become a permanent state of the UN Security Council.

    Cyprus and India also decided to further enhance their bilateral relations and to this cause they will soon set up a high level committee.

    President Papadopoulos urged Indian businessmen to make investments in Cyprus especially in the areas of high technology, information technology and pharmaceutics, making use of the European funds for research and technology as well as innovation.

    Cypriot businessmen, who accompany the Cypriot President, held a series of meetings with Indian businessmen and concluded agreements with them.

    Moreover, a group of Cypriot academics is in India with the President of Cyprus to discuss ways of cooperation with Indian universities.

    During the visit, India and Cyprus also discussed ways to boost their cooperation in the sector of tourism.

    President Papadopoulos, who is accompanied by Foreign Minister George Iacovou and Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, George Lillikas, returns to Cyprus Sunday.
