Cypriot President satisfied with EU agreement on Turkey

Nicosia, Oct 4 (CNA) - Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos said this evening that he was satisfied with the agreement reached last night in Luxembourg for the commencement of Turkey's EU accession negotiations.

Speaking after a House of Representatives plenary session held in honour of European Parliament President Josep Borrell, who is on an official visit to Cyprus, and asked if he was satisfied with the developments in Luxembourg, President Papadopoulos said, ''Yes, I am satisfied.''

Christofias thanks Borrell for EP's support to Cyprus

Nicosia, Oct 4 (CNA) - Cypriot House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias thanked European Parliament President Josep Borrell for the consistent support Cyprus enjoys from the European Parliament, mainly on issues of principle, in the framework of the efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem, but also as regards the island's European course.

Speaking at the dinner in honour of Borrell, Christofias said the recent decisions by the European Parliament on the EU-Turkey Protocol and Turkey's accession negotiations with the Union are indicative of the Parliament's adherence to principles and the international law.
