    Cyprus President reiterates his proposal for the return of Varosha

    Nicosia, Sep 29 (CNA)-- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos reiterated here Thursday his proposal for the return of the enclosed city of Varosha in Cyprus Turkish occupied area to its lawful owners, as ''a tangible step that would significantly contribute to the crystallization of trust between the two communities'' on the island.

    Papadopoulos received today the credentials of Panama's new Ambassador to Cyprus based in Athens Antonio Fotis Taquis, who assured that his country will always support the Republic of Cyprus' efforts to reunify the island.

    Armenian candidate pledges to bring a breath of fresh air to the House

    Nicosia, Sep 29 (CNA) Candidate for the position of the Armenian representative in the Cyprus House Antranig Ashdjian has pledged to bring ''a breath of fresh air'' to the way the minority is represented in the House of Representatives.

    Speaking at a press conference, Ashdjian said that the change in mentality and the way of thinking of the representative of the Armenians will come with the election of a young person who had absolutely no involvement in the decision making process the last years.

    Armenian Culture Minister to visit Cyprus

    Nicosia, Sep 29 (CNA) Armenian Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Hovik Hoveyan arrives in Cyprus Friday for an official visit during which he will hold meetings with Cypriot officials.

    According to the official programme of the visit, Hovenyan will meet with his Cypriot counterpart, Minister of Education and Culture Pefkios Georgiades, House President Dimitris Christofias and Director of the President's Press Office Marios Karoyan.

    Cyprus very sensitive to any actions acknowledging the illegal regime

    Nicosia, Sep 29 (CNA)-- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos said here today that his government is extremely sensitive to any action which may encourage separate ''acknowledgment'' of the occupying regime established in northern Cyprus after the 1974 Turkish invasion, as such attitude would be counter-incentive to a solution of the Cyprus problem.

    President Papadopoulos received the credentials of the first Ambassador of Georgia to Cyprus, stationed in Tel Aviv, Israel, Lasha Zhvania. Papadopoulos added Cyprus is ready to support Georgia's aspirations for integration with the European Union.

    Presenting his credentials Zhvania described Cyprus' experience with regard to the EU as of utmost important for Georgia.

    Greek Minister briefs Cyprus President over ''Thrace-Aegean-Cyprus'' programme

    Nicosia, Sep 29 (CNA) Minister of the Aegean and Island Policy of Greece Aristotelis Pavlides discussed here today with Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos ways to promote the ''Thrace-Aegean-Cyprus'' program in order to make it more effective within the EU framework.

    Speaking after his meeting with President Papadopoulos, the Greek official said that President Papadopoulos and the Greek Premier Costas Karamanlis have given their full support to the effort so that the context of the programme becomes more meaningful.
