    Nicosia, Jan 16 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos and Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis will have talks on Thursday 18 Augusta in Athens to assess the situation with regard to the question of Cyprus.

    According to an official press release ''The President's visit is part of the regular and continuous understanding and cooperation between the two governments and in view of the latest developments on the Cyprus problem''.

    CMP agrees to speed up efforts for an anthropological laboratory

    Nicosia, Aug 11 (CNA) The Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) agreed to speed up efforts to set up an Anthropological Laboratory in the buffer zone for the purpose of identifying remains through the DNA process.

    The CMP held its 410th formal meeting today, closing its 88th working session, under the chairmanship of its Turkish Cypriot Member Rustem Z. Tatar.

    A statement issued by CMP said the committee considered a further progress report from the Inforce forensic archaeologist on emergency exhumations was considered.

    It added that the preparation for the general programme for exhumations is underway and it is expected that implementation may commence in the autumn.

    Cyprus to provide humanitarian assistance to Sudan

    Nicosia, Aug 11 (CNA) Cyprus has decided to offer Sudan humanitarian assistance worth 120 thousand Cyprus pounds (One CYP equals to around two US dollars).

    According to an official press release, the aid was decided by the Council of Ministers, following an appeal by the European Union to grant humanitarian assistance to the residents of Darfur, Sudan, who are facing a humanitarian crisis because of the military violence and violation of their human rights.

    Chinese Foreign Minister to pay official visit to Cyprus

    Nicosia, Aug 11 (CNA) Chinas Minister of Foreign Affairs Li Zhaoxing will pay an official visit to Cyprus from 22-23 August at the invitation of his Cypriot counterpart George Iacovou.

    Zhaoxing, who will be accompanied by an eight-member delegation, will be received by President of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos and will also hold talks with Iacovou.

    In statements to CNA, Iacovou said that ''China is an important country in the international community, a permanent member of the Security Council and has a special interest on Cyprus''.

    Nicosia, Aug 11 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Friday and Saturday: 12/08/2005 to 13/08/2005

    Sunny weather with light sea breezes is expected for Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will range from 22 degrees minimum to 38 inland from 22 to 33-34 to over the coast and from 18 over Prodromos mountain.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 14/08/2005 to 15/08/2005

    Fine weather. Temperature may increase 1 to 2 degrees.

    Sea temperature: 24C.

    Nicosia, Aug 11 (CNA) A ceremony will be held on Friday to launch the EU-funded UNDP/Partnership for the Future (PFF) Landmine and Ordnance Clearance Programme.

    For this reason, two decoy mines that have been removed from minefields in the Nicosia Airport area in the buffer zone, will be destroyed within the buffer zone.

    ICAO position on illegal flights to occupied areas remains unchanged

    Nicosia, Aug 11 (CNA) The position of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) as far as Cyprus is concerned has not changed and the organisation continues to follow the UNs policy on Cyprus, its President Assad Kotaite has said, adding the illegal airport at Turkish occupied Tympou is not included in the list of international airports.

    According to an official statement, in a reply letter dated 9th August to Cyprus ambassador to Washington and the islands representative to ICAO Evripidis Evriviades, Kotaite stressed that all members of ICAO should act according to the existing conditions of safety for international flights as they have been set out by the organisation.
