    Israeli flagged ships anchor in Cyprus after security threat

    Nicosia, Aug 5 (CNA) -- Three Israeli-flagged cruise ships carrying an estimated 1.500 passengers and heading for Turkey, were diverted to Cyprus here Friday following information about a security threat, Cypriot port police confirmed to CNA.

    Two of the ships docked at Limassol Port at 1600 GMT on the southwest of the island, while a third was expected to sail to the eastern port of Larnaca later this evening.

    Cyprus government satisfied over demining in Nicosia buffer zone

    Nicosia, Aug 5 (CNA) --The Cyprus government expressed here today satisfaction over an agreement reached by the Turkish occupation forces and UNFICYP for the destruction of the minefields in the buffer zone in Nicosia, calling on them to proceed with the demining of the entire occupied areas.

    ''We express our satisfaction over the agreement between the occupation forces and the UN to demine a limited number of minefields around the buffer zone'', Mariïs Karoyian, the Presidents Press Office Director told CNA.

    G/C and T/C politicians to continue meetings despite different views

    Nicosia, Aug 5 (CNA) Leader of the Greek Cypriot main opposition Democratic Rally party (DISI), Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Democratic Party leader Serdar Denktash pledged here today to continue meeting despite their different positions on how to solve the Cyprus problem.

    Speaking to the press after a two-hour meeting between at the offices of DISI in the government-controlled areas, the two leaders announced that will form a committee to examine the differences between the two communities on various issues with a view to better understand the positions of each side.
