    Panagopoulos leaves after five years as Greek Ambassador

    Larnaca, Jun 27 (CNA) -- Christos Panagopoulos left Cyprus yesterday after five years of service as Nicosia-based Greece's Ambassador, stressing that bilateral relations ''have reached their best possible point and are the corner stone to achieve the island's reunification''.

    Speaking at Larnaca airport upon departure he said he was proud for the fact that he had arrived in Cyprus sharing the ''anguish and the expectations of the Greek Hellenism'' and he departs satisfied with the fact of the island's accession to the European Union.

    Nicosia, Jun 27 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesay: 28/06/2005 to 29/06/2005

    On Tuesday the weather will be fine. Sea breezes will reach 3 to 4 BF and the state of sea will be slight to mederate. Over night fine weather is expected with light catabatic winds and the state of sea will be smooth to slight.

    On Wednesday the weather will be mainly fine with patchy cloud over the mountains during early afternoon. Sea breezes will reach 4 BF and the state of sea will be slight to moderate minimum temperature will range from 15 degrees over the highest mountainous ranges to 23 over the coastal areas and inland. The maximum temperature will range from 25 degrees over the highest mountainous ranges to 33 over the coastal areas and to 367 inland.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 30/06/2005 - 01/06/2005

    The weather on Thursday will be mainly fine with temporal cloud over the mountains during early afternoon. On Friday the weather will be fine. The temperature on Thursday will remain without any significant change but on Friday will note a small increase.

    EU official holds talks in Nicosia

    Nicosia, Jun 27 (CNA) - Special Advisor for Cyprus to the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Jaako Blomberg, who is currently visiting the island, held an in depth discussion today with Minister of Foreign Affairs George Iacovou on the Cyprus problem and EU regulations to upgrade the economic situation of the Turkish Cypriots.

    He was also briefed by House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias on the Greek Cypriot side's positions regarding the Cyprus problem and the difficulties in allowing direct trade between the EU and the Turkish occupied areas.

    Palestinian Minister holds talks in Cyprus

    Nicosia, Jun 27 (CNA) - Chief Negotiator and Minister for Local Governance of the Palestinian Authority Saeb Erekat met today in Nicosia with House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias and Minister of Foreign Affairs George Iacovou, with whom he discussed the Cyprus problem and the Middle East question.

    After the meeting, Iacovou said he had asked for the support of the Palestinian Authority towards Cyprus' positions in view of a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Conference in Yemen.
