Cypriot FM believes Turkey will sign Protocol

Larnaca, Jun 12 (CNA) Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs George Iacovou believes that the additional protocol regarding Turkey's customs union with the ten new EU member states, including Cyprus, will be officially signed by Turkey and if it wants to make a statement that will be done verbally.

The Foreign Minister, talking to journalists before his departure for Luxembourg where he will attend the General Affairs and External Relations Council which will examine the EU economic perspectives, said the Protocol is ready and it will be presented before the EU Foreign Ministers meeting in Brussels tomorrow.

Cyprus to host JRC governors board meeting

Nicosia Jun 11 (CNA) -- From the 22nd until the 24th June 2005 the Cypriot Research Promotion Foundation is going to host the annual meeting of the Governors Board of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) Directorate-General of EU, at the Golden Bay Hotel in Larnaca.

During the meeting and on Friday, 24 June, representatives of the main Cypriot research organisations will present to the JRC Board of Governors their activities, while they will be informed by the JRC about the cooperation opportunities they have.

French FM arrives in Cyprus to meet freed hostage

Nicosia, Jun 12 (CNA) French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy is expected to arrive in Cyprus today to greet and take home French national Florence Aubenas, a journalist, freed yesterday with her Iraqi interpreter after nearly five months of captivity in Iraq.

Undersecretary to the President Christodoulos Pashiardis told CNA that he was heading to Andreas Papandreou military airbase in Paphos, where two planes, carrying Blazy and Aubenas are scheduled to land at 1530 local time (1230 GMT).

He said that as soon after Aubenas plane lands, she will depart for Paris in Blazys jet.
