    Cyprus President: Too early to talk about a new process on Cyprus

    Paphos, Jun 6 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos has said it was too early and uncertain to talk about the beginning of a new process to solve the Cyprus problem and for the conditions under which this procedure will take place.

    Papadopoulos said ''our hope is Turkey to realize that the pending situation as regards Cyprus does not serve anyone nor its own interests, the Turkish Cypriots or the Greek Cypriots''.

    Russian FM to visit Cyprus

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will pay an official visit to Cyprus beginning tomorrow during which he will hold talks and sign bilateral agreements with his Cypriot counterpart George Iacovou.

    Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides announced that Lavrov will also be received by Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos and House of Representatives President Demitris Christofias.

    He will leave on Thursday morning.

    US Ambassador welcomes actions by Cyprus government against trafficking

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) -- US Ambassador in Nicosia Michael Klosson has welcomed actions taken by the Cyprus government and the progress achieved during the past year in the battle against trafficking in persons.

    Speaking after the release of the State Department's Trafficking in Persons Report, Klosson said he looked forward ''to continued cooperation between the US and Cyprus on this problem that affects us all.''

    Cyprus is upgrading its health services, Health Minister says

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) -- Cyprus Health Ministry continues to upgrade the quality of its services and structures after Cyprus' accession to the European Union, Health Minister Andreas Gavrielides told CNA, in an interview on the occasion of the first anniversary of Cyprus' entry into the EU.

    The minister said that Cyprus is today fully harnominsed with the acquis communautaire. He added Nicosia follows closely EU laws and regulations in order to make on time the necessary arrangements as regards its national laws and the pertinent adjustments to the public services and structures.

    Cypriot government says Turkey must clarify stance

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) - Cypriot Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said that now is the time for Turkey to clarify its stance on Cyprus and indicate its readiness for real changes to the Annan plan.

    Responding to questions, the Spokesman said Turkey should clarify if its aim is to bring back the solution plan, proposed by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and rejected by the overwhelming majority of the Greek Cypriot community in April last year, as it was.

    Russian FM Sergey Lavrov to hold official visit to Cyprus

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov will pay an official visit to Cyprus from June 7 to 9, at the invitation of his Cypriot counterpart George Iacovou.

    Lavrov, who arrives here tomorrow afternoon, will be received on Wednesday by President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos and President of the House of Representatives Demetris Christofias.

    He will also hold talks with his Cypriot counterpart, during which they will discuss the Cyprus problem, bilateral relations as well as other regional issues.
