Cypriot President to attend Moscow VE celebrations

Moscow, May 8 CNA -- Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos arrives here today at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate on Monday at events celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War marking the allies victory in Europe (VE Day).

Former President Glafcos Clerides will also be present as a veteran of WWII and will be honored at a special ceremony by President Putin.

Cypriot President: Rehn not conveying any Famagusta proposal

Larnaca, May 8 (CNA) Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos rejected reports that during his visit to Cyprus next week, Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn will convey a proposal on Famagusta.

Speaking to reporters before departing to Moscow to attend celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe, President Papadopoulos noted that this was not the purpose of Rehns visit to Cyprus

The Cypriot President also said that during US Deputy Assistant Secretary Laura Kennedys visit to Cyprus last week, they only discussed the Cyprus problem.
