    House President expects Americans to have a creative role on Cyprus

    Larnaca, May 5 (CNA) House President Demetris Christofias met with US Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Laura Kennedy who too believes that "a Cyprus solution should be agreed" by both sides.

    Speaking before departing to Hungary to take part in the annual meeting of the Speakers of the EU Parliaments, Christofias described the meeting with the US official as "creative" and expressed hope that the US will continue on the path of the statements made by Kennedy during their meeting and on her arrival to Cyprus earlier today.

    Olli Rehn: Signing of Protocol by Ankara would be a positive step

    Nicosia, May 5 (CNA)-- The signing of the Protocol extending the Ankara Agreement to all 25 EU Member States would be a positive step towards normalisation of relations with Cyprus, pending a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem, European Union's Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn has said.

    Addressing a forum in Istanbul (Constantinople), entitled ''Prioritisation: where should Turkey focus its energies'', Rehn referred to Turkey's relation's with the EU member states, pointing out the need for the signing of the Ankara Agreement to expand its Custom's Union with all new EU members-states, including the Republic of Cyprus.
