    New Zealand says Cyprus settlement up to involved parties

    Nicosia, Feb 10 (CNA) -- Governor General of New Zealand Dame Silvia Cartwright has expressed the wish that efforts to solve the Cyprus problem would be fruitful, noting that the international community is called upon to play a role in this process and that a viable, permanent and peaceful settlement of the Cyprus problem was up to the directly involved parties.

    Nicosia, Feb 10 (CNA) -- The government of the Republic of Cyprus has welcomed the results of the Sharm El Sheikh Summit between the Israelis and Palestinians, noting that ''the positive outcome of the summit demonstrates the commitment of both sides to move forward towards achieving a peaceful settlement of the conflict, through negotiations in the framework of the Road Map of the Quartet.''

    ''The objective remains the creation of an independent and viable Palestinian state, co-existing with Israel in conditions of peace, security and stability,'' an official press release says.

    Nicosia, Feb 10 (CNA) -- Cypriot Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides confirmed today that so-called minister of foreign affairs of the puppet regime in the Turkish occupied areas, Serdar Denktash, had asked a few days ago for a meeting with President of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos to discuss the issue of the suspects for the murder of the Guzelyurtlu family.

    Nicosia, Feb 10 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Friday and Saturday: 11/02/2005 to 12/02/2005 ---------------------

    The weather will be mainly cloudy with light rainshowers and snow over the mountains. Local thunderstorms are likely later on Saturday afternoon and evening.

    The wind will prevail northeast to east gentle to moderate 3 to 4 bf decreasing over night to light to gentle 2 to 3 bf. The wind is expected to pick up moderate to rough 4 to 5 bf.

    The state of sea will be slight to moderate but up to rough over the eastern and locally the southern coastal areas.

    The temperature will range from 3 to 10 inland from 4 to 12 over the coastal areas and from minus 4 to minus 2 over the mountains.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 13/02/2005 to 14/02/2005 ------------------------------- The weather on Sunday will be partly cloudy with probable light rain showers and snow over the mountains. Temperature is expected to note a small increase.

    On Monday the weather will become gradually cloudy with rain and the temperature is expected to note a further increase.

    Christofias says Britain must stop challenging Cypriots

    Athens, Feb 10 (CNA) - General Secretary of Cypriot AKEL party Demetris Christofias said today that Britain must understand that the Cypriots have feelings and dignity, which they stand up for, and called on the British ''to stop challenging the feelings of the people of Cyprus on a daily basis, for our benefit and theirs.''

    Speaking in Athens after a meeting with Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Petros Molyviatis, Christofias said the main aim is to rid Cyprus of the Turkish occupation of its northern third, noting that the big question put to Britain is what she wants, ''in an effort to make her understand that, while choosing Turkey over Cyprus, she must understand that the Cypriots have feelings and dignity, which they cannot but stand up for.''

    Nicosia, Feb 10 (CNA) -- The representative of the Greek Cypriot side to the Committee of Missing Persons (CMP) Elias Georgiades has said today that information handed over to the Committee by the Turkish Cypriot side as regards new possible sites of graves of missing persons in Cyprus' occupied areas must be completed and substantiated.

    UNSG urges Cyprus President to put his views on paper

    London, Feb 10 (CNA) -- UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has urged Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos to ''put his views on paper'' as regards the changes he wants to his settlement plan on Cyprus, adding that ''a detailed list of his objections would help.''

    Invited by CNA to comment on the readiness expressed by President Papadopoulos for the resumption of negotiations on Cyprus under UN auspices, Annan said when the referendum on his settlement plan did not succeed, he asked the parties to go back and reflect, think deeply and come up with suggestions as to what changes they would like to see and how they would like to proceed.
