    New Health Minister gives prescribed affirmation

    Nicosia, Feb 1 (CNA) -- New Health Minister Andreas Gavrielides gave the prescribed affirmation today before Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos.

    President Papadopoulos expressed certainty that with his knowledge in the health field and his work with medical and paramedical staff of the health services, Gavrielides will complete the task he has undertaken.

    Nicosia, Feb 1 (CNA) -- Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos is ready to attend a new negotiating process to reach a Cyprus settlement once the framework of the procedure under the UN auspices is set, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides has said, invited to comment on statements by Turkish Cypriot self-styled prime minister Mehmet Ali Talat that he was ready to meet President Papadopoulos.

    Nicosia, Feb 1 (CNA) -- New Minister of Health Andreas Gavrielides assumed office today and set his priorities regarding the health sector.

    Speaking during a welcoming ceremony at the Ministry of Health in the presence of outgoing Minister of Health, Minister of the Interior, Andreas Christou and other Ministry officials, Gavrielides said he would do his utmost so that the government's general plan for health ''finds its right path''.

    Nicosia, Feb 1 (CNA) - Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos has said the Greek Cypriot side is ready for talks to solve the Cyprus problem under the UN Secretary-General's auspices.

    He was speaking on his arrival at the Hilton Hotel, where he is the official guest of the Cyprus News Agency at a lunch given on the occasion of the New Year for news agency correspondents on the island and foreign press which the agency cooperates with.

    Papadopoulos: signing of protocol is Turkey's obligation to EU

    Nicosia, Feb 1 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos said here today that Ankara has an obligation towards the European Union to sign the protocol to its custom union agreement with the EU, stressing that securing a signature from Ankara is not his priority since his priority is to find a negotiated settlement in Cyprus.
