Nicosia, Jan 24 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos leaves Tuesday for a working visit to Greece, during which he will hold talks with Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and will have meetings with party leaders.

Weather forecast for Cyprus

Nicosia, Jan 24 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

Tuesday and Wednesday: 25/01/2005 to 26/01/2005 ------- Tuesday: High cloud will gradually increase. Lower cloud will form locally with a chance of light rain in the afternoon. Wind will be southeast to southwest, light 2-3BF and up to moderate 4BF in the afternoon. Sea state will be slight. Temperature will vary between 20/17C inland, 5/19 C over the coastal areas and -1/7C over the mountains.

Wednesday: High cloud and small increase to the temperature.

Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 27/01/2005 to 28/01/2005 ------- At times cloudy weather with mainly medium and high cloud. Further small increase in temperature on Thursday and decrease on Friday.

Defence Ministry sets up Strategic Study Institute

Nicosia, Jan 24 (CNA) -- Cypriot Minister of Defence Kyriakos Mavronicolas announced today the establishment of a Strategic Study Institute, which will carry out research for strategy and decision-making purposes on national security matters.

The Institute, the founding of which was recently decided by the Council of Ministers, will be the body through which the Ministry of Defence will cover its scientific research and analysis needs concerning issues of strategy, international relations, geopolitics and security, in cooperation with the Defence Analysis Institute of the Greek National Defence Ministry.

Mavronicolas told a press conference that the Institute would be under the Ministry of Defence and initially would comprise academics offering their services cost-free.

Syrian Transport minister to visit Cyprus

Nicosia, Jan 24 (CNA) Syrias Minister of Transport Macram Obeid arrives in Cyprus Tuesday for talks and contacts, at the invitation of the Minister of Communications and Works Haris Thrasou.

The two ministers will discuss issues of mutual interest in the field of civil aviation, commercial shipping, road transport and electronic communication.
