    Women's Organization GODIK organizes event dedicated to Human Rights

    Nicosia, Dec 1 (CNA) -- Having suffered from grave violations of human rights, since the Turkish invasion in 1974, Cyprus attaches great significance to the protection and promotion of human rights, Minister of Justice and Public Order Doros Theodorou said here today.

    Addressing an event by the Women's Organization of the ruling Democratic Party (GODIK) dedicated to the 56th anniversary of the adaptation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 25th anniversary of GODIK, Theodorou expressed hope that ''with the predominant role of the UN Secretary General a comprehensive, viable and lasting solution to the Cyprus problem will be found''.

    Egyptian Speaker arrives in Cyprus for official visit

    Larnaca, Dec 1 (CNA) Dr. Ahmed Fathy Sorour, speaker of the Egyptian People's Assembly said Cyprus' accession to the European Union will greatly benefit not only the island but also south-eastern Mediterranean countries and especially Egypt.

    Speaking on his arrival for a three-day official visit at the invitation of House President Demetris Christofias, Sorour said his country looks forward to a powerful Cyprus, which will safeguard its unity and continued progress.
