    UN Security Council to adopt resolution on UNFICYP

    United Nations, Oct 22 (CNA) -- The UN Security Council is expected to adopt today a resolution on the peace-keeping operation in Cyprus (UNFICYP) by which it will endorse the Secretary General's recommendations for the amendment of the concept of operations and force level of UNFICYP, as outlined in his report of 24 September 2004 and will extend UNFICYP's mandate for a further six-month period ending 15 June 2005.

    United Nations, Oct 22 (CNA) -- Speedy disposal of the cases and prompt and efficient execution of the judgements of the European Court of Human Rights is essential for the credibility of the European Convention of Human Rights as a constitutional instrument of European public order which significantly contributes to the democratic tradition of Europe, Cypriot deputy and Chairman of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Human Rights Committee Christos Pourgourides has said.

    British NGO set to exhume remains in Cyprus

    Nicosia, Oct 22 (CNA) -- The Inforce Foundation is set to become the non governmental organisation that will carry out exhumations of remains of Greek and Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus, if ongoing consultations on the matter reach a successful conclusion, according to well informed sources.

    The same sources told CNA that Inforce members were in Cyprus last week for consultations with the two sides, who have been engaged for the past several weeks in talks through the Committee of Missing Persons (CMP) with the participation of the Committee's third member, who is UN appointed.

    Nicosia, Oct 22 (CNA) -- Britain believes that the European Union should begin ''without delay'' accession negotiations with Turkey without any new conditions or preconditions, British Minister for Europe Denis MacShane said here today.

    Speaking to Greek and Turkish Cypriot journalists as he concluded his visit here, he welcomed the view of the government of Cyprus that no one should seek to veto Turkey's application and noted that Turkey joining the EU will anchor the country into democratic norms.

    Nicosia, Oct 22 (CNA)-- European Union experts on anti-terrorism praised today the Cyprus Police's high level of professionalism, noting that the Force is ready to respond to all EU requirements to combat terrorism.

    The EU team comprised of seven experts who visited Cyprus to evaluate the Cypriot police's operations against terrorism, in the framework of a series of visits to all EU member-states.
