Greek Premier: Both sides to lose out if there is no Cyprus solution

Íicosia, May 21 (CNA) -- Greeces Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis conveyed the message to US President George Bush that the Greek Cypriot "no" to the Annan Plan in last months referendum should not be interpreted as a "no" to a settlement.

Karamanlis told a news conference after his talks with Bush at the White House that there should soon be a new effort towards the direction that would lead to the islands reunification, stressing that if there is no solution and the situation remains as it is, then both sides will lose out but with a solution both sides will gain.

Asked whether there will be a new initiative on Cyprus, following the result of the referendum, the Greek Premier said there was a verdict and this should be respected by all, and I believe it is.
