He also expressed hope that before too long the Greek Cypriots, who rejected his plan for a settlement of the Cyprus problem in Saturday's referendum, will have an opportunity to consider the plan more calmly and to judge it on its true merits. Speaking at a press conference at UN headquarters, Annan said ''the vote by the Greek Cypriots to reject my proposals last Saturday was of course a great disappointment since it means that Cyprus will not now enter the EU as a reunited island.'' Annan went on to ''salute the Turkish Cypriots for their courageous vote in favour of the proposals,'' noting that ''we must all do our best to see that they are not penalised for the way the vote went on the other part of the island.'' [02] COREPER agrees on Cyprus demarcation line regulation2140:CYPPRESS:11COREPER agrees on Cyprus demarcation line regulation by Nicos Bellos Brussels, Apr 28 (CNA) - COREPER, the EU's permanent representatives, reached a decision today on the status of the regulation regarding arrangements along the demarcation line in Cyprus after May 1, when Cyprus officially joins the EU. The main point of the new regulation is the primary role of the government of the Republic of Cyprus in the movement of goods. The regulation says that the goods will be accompanied by certificates that have been issued by the Turkish Cypriot chamber of commerce, approved by the European Commission in agreement with the Republic of Cyprus. The regulation applies for goods exclusively of Cypriot origin, while for the rest there will be a European Commission proposal. On the movement of persons across the demarcation line, the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus will be responsible for passport and valid travel document control or visas for residents of third countries. Replying to questions, Pakistan's Permanent Representative said that since the Turkish Cypriot community accepted a UN plan for a Cyprus settlement in Saturday's referendum, it should not be isolated any more. [04] Cyprus President satisfied with Athens talks, COREPER decision2225:CYPPRESS:13Cyprus President satisfied with Athens talks, COREPER decision Larnaca, April 28 (CNA) - Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos said he was very satisfied with his contacts in Greece, just five days after the Greek Cypriot community rejected the Annan Plan in a referendum. He said that in Greece he reviewed developments, exchanged views and evaluations, and examined measures which may be taken to change, to the extent possible, the climate due to the negative result of the referendum. The Cypriot President also described as ''very satisfactory'' the decision of COREPER, the EU's permanent representatives, who agreed on the status of the regulation regarding arrangements along the demarcation line in Cyprus after May 1, when Cyprus officially joins the EU.
