Weather forecast for Cyprus

Nicosia, Aug 21 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

Friday and Saturday: 22/08/2003 to 23/08/2003

The weather will be fine and mainly clear. Local mist patches are expected overnight and towards dawn, near some coastal areas. Risk of isolated fog patches. Light to gentle southeast to southwest winds will be blowing during the morning, while gentle to moderate sea breezes will prevail, in the afternoon. Light to gentle southewsterly to northwesterly winds, will blow overnight.

The sea state will be generally slight, in the afternoon, but smooth to slight during the morning and overnight.

Maximum temperature is expected to reach 38C inland, around 35C over the south and east coasts, around 31C over the west and around 30C over Prodromos. Temperature is expected to fall overnight to around 25C inland, 23C over the east and south coasts, 21C over the west coast and 19C over Prodromos.

Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 24/08/2003 to 25/08/2003

No significant change is expected.

Nicosia, Aug 21 (CNA) Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos will travel to Athens on 16 September for talks with Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis.

House President sends letter of condolences to Annan

Nicosia, Aug 21 (CNA) House President Demetris Christofias, in a letter of condolences to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, expressed deep shock and sorrow at the unprovoked and devastating attack on the UN headquarters in Baghdad and the tragic loss of many lives, including that of Annan's Special Representative Sergio Vieira de Mello.

Expressing his deepest condolences and steadfast solidarity, Christofias conveyed the House of Representatives and his sincere sympathy and feelings of grief to the bereaved families.

Eurozone external trade surplus figures on Cyprus

Nicosia, Aug 21 (CNA) Exports from Cyprus to EU member states were down to 0.06 billion euros between January-March 2003, compared to 0.07 billion euros for the same period last year, while imports remained stable at 0.5 billion euros.
