[05] Foreign Minister to hold meetings with UN and US officials1445:CYPPRESS:05Foreign Minister to hold meetings with UN and US officials Nicosia, Jun 7 (CNA) Cyprus Foreign Minister, Georgios Iacovou leaves tomorrow for the US where he will hold meetings with senior UN and US officials. An official press release says Iacovou will visit New York from June 8 to 10, where he will meet with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, President of the UN General Assembly Jan Kavan, Deputy UN Secretary General Sir Kieran Prendergast and Annan's Special Adviser on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto. Iacovou will also meet with the Representatives of the five permanent members of the Security Council, while he will sign the International Criminal Court's Agreement on Privileges and Immunities. The Cypriot Minister will then visit Washington from 10-14 June, where he will hold meetings with US Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Colin Powell, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice and the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert. In the US capital, Iacovou will also meet with members of the Senate and the Congress, former US presidential special emissary on Cyprus, Richard Holbrooke, as well as members of think tanks. He will also address a gathering organised by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies and the Western Policy Centre. ''Clearly and categorically I state that no port can operate unless it is under the total responsibility and supervision of the legal government of the Cyprus Republic'', Papadopoulos underlined, replying to a question regarding recent speculation concerning the opening of the Turkish occupied town of Famagusta port. Invited to say whether the government has made clear its views on the matter to the European Union, Papadopoulos said ''more than clear. It is neither a matter under discussion nor negotiable''.
