    Nicosia, May 19 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday 20/05/2003 to 21/05/2003 --------------------

    Ôhe weather will be fair with some patchy cloud in the mornings, but in the afternoons it will be locally partly cloudy with probability of local showers especially inland and over mountains, Southwesterly to Nortwesterly light to moderate winds and the state of sea, slight, locally moderate in the afternoon.

    Maximum temperature: around 33C inland, 29C coastal areas, 25C mountains.

    Minimum temperature: around 16C inland, west coasts, mountains, 19C south and east coasts.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday 22/5/2003 to 23/5/2003

    Fair with patchy cloud. Risk of isolated showers on Firday.

    Temperature: Small decrease.

    Nicosia, May 19 (CNA) - Head of the European Commission's delegation in Cyprus Adriaan Van der Meer said today that at the beginning of June the Commission would convey to the European Council and all community institutions its communication regarding the package of measures for the Turkish Cypriots.

    Cyprus untapped trade potential to EU over 60 m. dollars

    Nicosia, May 19 (CNA) -- Cyprus has a large untapped trade potential to the European Union (EU) of over 60 million dollars while there is a large gap between the competitiveness of its manufacturing sector and the competitiveness of the EU manufacturing sector, a study on Competitiveness and Market Opportunities in the EU for Products and Services originating from the Republic of Cyprus said here Monday.

    The UNDP/UNOPS Programme Partnership for the Future funded the study, released here by the EU.

    Presenting the findings during a press conference held in the presence of head of the European Commission Delegation to Cyprus, Ambassador Adrian Van der Meer, UNOPS consultant Paul Baker said ''the main finding that came out of this study is that there is a huge amount of potential out there which Cypriot companies, especially Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are not taking advantage of.''

    UNDP/UNOPS/PFF Business Development Adviser Giuseppe Belsito said the main objectives of the project were to promote networking and partnership between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot business communities, to strengthen Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) competitiveness through targeted capacity-building activities and grant schemes and to enhance awareness on the acquis communautaire and business-oriented topics.
