    Nicosia, May 12 (CNA) -- The first greco-cypriot telecommunications sattelite, "Hellas Sat", will be launched today from the Canaveral Cape in Florida.

    Nicosia football club Omonia win championship

    Nicosia, May 12 (CNA) -- Nicosia football club Omonia have won the Cyprus championship title beating at home Apollonas of Limassol 5 - 0 in the last match of the Cyprus League.

    Omonia founded in 1948 won the Cyprus title 19 times, clinching 60 points in 26 games in the 2002-2003 football season. They scored 68 goals and conceded 22. The League's first scorer was Anorthosis' Marios Neophytou with 33 goals.

    Nicosia, May 12 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday 13/05/2003 to 14/05/2003 --------------------

    Mainly fine with local cloud which may give an isolated shower over the mountains in the afternoon. The wind will be Southwest to Northwest 3-4 BF. State of sea slight. The temperature will be around 36 inland, 33 over South and Southeast coast, 28 over west coast and 25 over the mountains.

    On Wednesday the temperature will slightly decrease.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday 15/5/2003 to 16/5/2003

    On Thursday, mainly fine with risk of isolated showers over mountains in the afternoon.

    On Friday, mainly fine with small increase in temperature.

    Nicosia, May 12 (CNA) -- The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) through two rulings relating to human rights violations by Turkey in Cyprus, has settled the issue of property and made it clear that there are no domestic remedies in Turkish occupied Cyprus to exhaust, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrisostomides said.

    Government takes decisions to prevent SARS outbreak in Cyprus

    Nicosia, May 12 (CNA) -- Important decisions aimed at preventing the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) from coming to Cyprus were taken at the Ministry of Health today, during a meeting with the participation of the Ministry of Education, the Police, the Immigration Department and colleges at which students from countries mourning SARS victims are enrolled.

    Minister of Health Costandina Akkelidou told CNA that ''the directors of the colleges at which Chinese students are studying have agreed to suspend enrollments until September, when the circumstances will be reviewed''. Akkelidou explained that Chinese students usually arrive in the Summer to prepare for English tests.

    Nicosia, May 12 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has reiterated its position that UN-led peace negotiations for a comprehensive settlement should resume as soon as possible.
