    Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 01/04/2003 to 02/04/2003

    Tuesday: Mainly fine with upper cloud. Light to moderate northeasterly to southeasterly wind. State of sea, slight, locally moderate.

    Maximum temperature: 20 over inland and coastal areas, 11 over Prodromos area.

    Minimum temperature: 8 inland, 10 over coastal areas, 2 over Prodromos area.

    Wednesday: Cloud will increase and light rain is expected to fall locally. Moderate easterly wind. State of sea, moderate, locally rough.

    Temperature will increase by 1 to 2 degrees.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 03/04/2003 to 04/04/2003

    Mainly fine with patcy cloud. Increase in temperature.

    Spokesman says peace talks to remain within UN framework

    Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) - Government Spokesman Kypros Chrisostomides said today the government would insist on not letting the process to solve the Cyprus problem deviate from the UN chief's good offices mission.

    He was commenting on a suggestion by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for a conference on Cyprus to be attended by the three guarantor powers of Cyprus' independence (Turkey, Britain, Greece), the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides.

    Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) - Government Spokesman Kypros Chrisostomides has described a report by the UN Secretary General to the 59th session of the Human Rights Commission in Geneva as ''balanced but lacking''.

    ''Unfortunately the report continues to be balanced but lacking, I would say, as it makes no reference to the continuous violations of human rights by Turkey since 1974, despite the fact that it mentions the Fourth Interstate Application against Turkey and the Loizidou case,'' the spokesman said.

    Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) - Former Member of Parliament Takis Hadjidemetriou today accepted a proposal by President Tassos Papadopoulos to be appointed Head of Cyprus' Negotiating Team for Accession to the European Union.

    An official press release says that in view of the conclusion of Cyprus' negotiations on all chapters of the acquis communautaire, the duties of the chief negotiator will cover the monitoring and practical safeguarding of the implementation of the acquis in the context of the monitoring procedure as provided for by the Copenhagen European Council decision.
