Cyprus government expresses regret over Iraqi war

Larnaca, Mar 20 (CNA) -- Acting President of the Cyprus Republic, House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias said today the approval by the island's cabinet earlier today of a US request to allow American aircraft to use Cyprus national airspace in its war against Iraq was ''entirely European''.

Expressing sadness and opposition to the war, he said Cyprus has managed to give the minimum it could to fulfill the US demands.

Cyprus Parliament joins worldwide opposition to war in Iraq

Nicosia, Mar 20 (CNA) -- Cyprus, through the House of Representatives, joined its voice with the international peace movement and international appeal for peace, and called for an end to the war in Iraq and the implementation of the decisions, principles and the UN Charter, as the only guarantee for the peaceful coexistence of the peoples.

Anti-war demonstration takes place in Nicosia

Nicosia, Mar 20 (CNA) -- Hundreds of people demonstrated here this evening against the US-led war in Iraq, demanding its immediate end.

Demonstrators marched from Nicosia central square to the US embassy, on the capital's western outskirts.
